However, as long as Intel makes progress with the Arrow Lake CPU's, it will be very difficult for ARM64 to gain traction, because developers will say, "Just wait for Arrow Lake. On a positive note, Logitech created an ARM64 beta version of their Logi software that lets you configure an MX Master 3 mouse, which is fantastic. Can you imagine how difficult that makes testing and debugging? You have to cross-compile from an x86/圆4 machine. There are still lots of missing ARM64-native libraries that developers rely on, and Visual Studio still (as far as I know) doesn't run natively on the SPX.
The number of SPX customers is too small to justify the hassle, and even if they wanted to and money were no object, the difficulty of maintaining so many different builds (x86, 圆4, and ARM64) would be a massive nightmare. You need an ARM64 driver, and companies have no incentive to invest development resources in creating them.Īs far as native versus non-native applications go, I've asked both the MobaXterm and Directory Opus guys if they're ever going to port to ARM64. If you need to print to something that isn't supported by Windows 11, good luck. The ARM64 versions of Office apps are great, but I'm not sure if there are native versions of Project and Visio. But that problem has been fixed, thanks to a third party. (ARM64 versions aren't available yet, with some individual exceptions.) And, up until recently, there was no way to edit keyboard layouts on the SPX. Where you'll run into potential problems is when you try to run Microsoft Power Toys.
Once it gets going, though, the speed is okay. Street Smart Edge takes three minutes to launch on an SPX compared to 30 seconds on an SP8. The problem is that the Adobe applications are unusably slow. I run all kinds of applications on it, from Telegram to Schwab's Street Smart Edge, thinkorswim, and MobaXterm. I bought my fully-loaded SPX the moment that it was released.
